From Wednesday, 1 October 2025, the Vascular Surgery Clinic of the 251 General Air Force Hospital will begin using an innovative portable ultrasound system that combines ultrasound technology with artificial intelligence (AI).
This system is called the “ThinkSono Guidance System” and is designed for the rapid diagnosis of deep vein thrombosis.
It is a wireless ultrasound device that connects to a mobile phone used as a display, allowing a physician to perform an immediate ultrasound examination without the need to transfer the patient to the ultrasound department. The data are processed through artificial intelligence and transmitted to vascular surgeons for rapid evaluation and management.
The Vascular Surgery Clinic of the 251 General Air Force Hospital will be the first in the world to apply this technology in clinical practice—an achievement that represents an international milestone for the clinic, the hospital, and the Hellenic Air Force.

Key Points
The technology helps reduce diagnostic time and conserve resources, as transferring the patient to a specialized department is not always required.
The system can effectively equip any physician with ultrasound examination capability supported by AI, enhancing the ability to achieve immediate diagnosis.
The adoption of this technology within the military and hospital environment demonstrates that Greece holds a leading role in the implementation of cutting-edge medical technology.
The Presence of RISALKO
Our company has the honor of being the first worldwide distributor of the pioneering method for the detection of deep vein thrombosis (DVT), using the ThinkSono system.
We would like to warmly thank Dr. Ioannis Bountouris, his team at the Vascular Surgery Clinic, and of course the Administration of the 251 General Air Force Hospital for the trust they have shown us and for the world’s first commercial use of the system.
