23rd Panhellenic Congress of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery – Angiology

The 23rd Panhellenic Congress of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery and Angiology, held from 13 to 15 June 2024 in the city of Volos, brought together leading scientists and professionals in the field. The event was organized under the supervision of the Hellenic Society for Vascular and Endovascular Surgery, in collaboration with the Hellenic Angiological Society.

The Scientific Program & Main Topics

During the three days of the congress, lectures, workshops, panel discussions, and e-poster sessions were presented, covering a wide range of topics. Among the subjects discussed were:

  • New endovascular techniques for the treatment of aneurysms and stenoses.
  • Traditional surgical procedures combined with minimally invasive methods.
  • Innovations in diagnostic imaging and materials technology.
  • Comprehensive management of patients with peripheral arterial disease and chronic limb ischemia.
  • Therapeutic approaches to venous disease and venous insufficiency.

The conference halls were equipped with modern presentation facilities (video projectors, screens), enabling speakers to support their presentations effectively. In addition, an exhibition of medical instruments, technologies, and products was held, where participants had the opportunity to explore new solutions firsthand.

Participation Management & Certifications

The official language of the congress was primarily Greek, while lectures by international invited speakers were delivered in English.

Participants were required to wear a name badge (with a barcode), which was used to record attendance hours. Certificates of attendance were to be sent electronically to those who attended at least 60% of the program.

In addition, the congress was awarded Continuing Medical Education credits (CME–CPD), which added further value to participation.

Innovations & Achievements

One of the distinguishing features of the congress was the strong emphasis on endovascular techniques as a complementary tool to the classical surgical approach. Cases of patients with complex vascular diseases were presented, accompanied by schematic and imaging examples.

Participants had the opportunity to attend workshops and thematic sessions analyzing techniques such as endovascular repair, the use of new materials, and combined interventions.

Conclusions & Perspectives

The 23rd congress in Volos highlighted the dynamic and continuously evolving nature of vascular surgery and angiology in Greece. It fostered collaboration among specialists, promoted knowledge of new technologies and techniques, and served as a platform for the presentation of research outcomes.

Given the rapid advancement in the field of endovascular interventions, the next step is the broader implementation of these innovations in everyday clinical practice, in collaboration with healthcare institutions throughout the country.
